How the Bay Area changes perspective
for better or for worse, optimizing your network in the Bay for the most meaningful and resonating connections
When I first moved to San Francisco, I really thought my entire life would be consumed by my job, and just doing daily mundane tasks that any adult graduating college would do. We go through this notion of trying to do adulting and still have somewhat of a life, balancing everything elegantly, but there’s so much more to life than that! San Francisco really has such great opportunities for learning outside of work, whether it is in the intellectually stimulating manner or even in the arts domain. Playing open mics on one day in a bar to going to a hackathon on Saturday and probably an AI event mid-week where you get to see Justin Kan DJ is so unique to SF, and it’s crucial to consider the positives while moving here!
Partiful app events disguised as fun could be really cool!
It might be lame to see an event on Partiful that’s not related to partying but actually coding stuff, AI hype, building LLMs type shit, but hey - these events help you meet some of the most talented and bright engineers/product people in tech which will definitely expand your horizons and allow you to think bigger beyond the scope of your 9 to 5. Tips on finding these events - a good place to start is SF IRL, Luma, or Cerebral Valley events. If you want to be fancy and have an incoming stream of cool tech knowledge, check out daily.dev.
Fostering genuine connections in the workplace.
Being authentic to your coworkers, honest about where you stand with your work, your challenges, is probably by far the most helpful thing I have seen firsthand. Fostering good relationships with my mentors, advisors, and seniors at work has helped me explore fields like product management from software in fintech, which is super cool as in not many engineers get to hop that step so quickly!
Remembering to relax and make friends at Dolo :)
Not gonna lie, if I ever leave SF, will probably miss the Dolores Park adventures the most, or as the cool kids call it - dolo. You can find people ranging from VCs to random chilling founders to people exploring artistic endeavors and painting warehouses. It never ends! SF really is such a vast city and people always box it in this big tech type category since there’s just either really rich companies or really poor drug addicts! Definitely not solely the case, if you look at the bigger picture.
